How to Build Backlinks to Increase Your Bottom Line

March 8, 2010 | By

If you would like to have your website rank higher in the search engines then you will need backlinks. And the more backlinks you have the higher your site will rank. The closer your website is to the first position in the search engines the more money you can make. These are facts of internet marketing life and this article shows you how to build backlinks that will translate into more money in your pocket.

The primary reason you should focus on getting high search engine rankings is that the sites that rank the highest get the most visitors. The sites on the first page get substantially more traffic for any keyword. And the site that is in the first position gets an amazing 42% of the traffic for that particular keyword.

It happens because when people look for information they would rather go with the top of the list than choose something from the middle or the bottom of the page.

But not all backlinks have the same power. Let’ see how you can get effective backlinks – the kind that will give you the results you are looking for.

What Is a Backlink?

You can look at a backlink as a vote for your site. The more votes you have the higher search engines such as Google will rank your website. But not all votes are the same. The backlinks you get from websites that have higher Page Rank (PR) ratings will have a greater impact on your ranking than votes from websites with lower Page Ranks.

Backlinks are sort of like a road that takes your visitors from the website they’re on to your website. The more roads you have going to your site the more opportunity for traffic you’ll have.

How to Build Backlinks

There are quite a few backlinking strategies you can use. One of the basic and easiest way to get backlinks is by writing articles and submitting them to various article directories. In exchange for your article these directories allow you put backinks to your website in what they call a bio box or a resource box.

A second extremely effective approach to getting backlinks is by posting relevant information on forums and blogs that have high PR ratings. For these posts your backlink will be part of your signature. Once your posts are approved it will help you to rise up in the search engine rankings quite quickly.

Another way to get backlinks is to build additional websites that link back to the pages of your “money” site. You can do this by either building blogs on some of the popular web 2.0 sites or by building additional websites that are hosted by a number of different hosting companies in different parts of the world.

As you can see, backlinks are extremely important. However it does take quite a bit of time and effort to research and write effective articles and posts, respond to questions of forums, build additional websites and blogs, etc. Even though the learning curve might look steep, it will be worth your investment in time.

Alternatively, if you are serious about your business and have the money to invest, you can outsource every part of this process.

  1. Don’t forget that search phrases play a important role in links. Example if you had a cartoon site you might use “Funny Cartoons” as the anchor text for the link. Just like the privacy policy link at the bottom of this page, it uses “Privacy Policy” as the anchor text.

The search engines not only use the link as a vote to your site it uses the anchor text as a boost for your site or page based upon the anchor text phrase.

Then you fashion the meta tag for that page using the same anchor text. That way the search engines see the link, use the anchor text and when the page uses the same anchor text in the meta and page content you have the best combination of SEO for the phrase and your site.

  2. great article. Thanks for shedding light on an important topic
